  • Location: located at Abu- Qir bay on the Mediterranean east Alexandria city; west Rasheed; one of the River Nile branches supervised by Naval Forces and is considered one of the most important Egyptian ports due to its distinguishable location on the Mediterranean.
  • Abu Qir port is considered one of the giant national projects established by the Naval Forces to serve international and transit trade in the Mediterranean, in addition to the establishment of several new multi-purpose maritime terminals and clean dry bulk handling and car handling (Ro-Ro) and other distinguishable Petroleum services it is also the first port that uses artificial intelligence techniques in the port's operation.
  • Abu Qir seaport obtained the Cabinet approval being a free zone in the name of Abu Qir container Handling Co. inside the port itself.
  • Also it has been decided to be the deepest Egyptian port on the Mediterranean, of berths depth draught reaching 22 m and length 6250 m long in addition to a berth of length 650 m and draught 17m.
  • The breakwater will reach 5730 longitudinal meter in addition to a high breakwater reaching 3270 longitudinal meter and of works of length 2127 longitudinal meter.

Abu-Qir port owns 10 dry bulk and general cargo berths and petroleum services of total length 3358 m and draught gradual from 8-12 meter, also container handling terminal berth of total length 1200 meter and draught 18meter and other berths under construction ( 3 berths of total length 6250 m and draught 22 m and a berth of 650m and draught 17m).

Abu-Qir container handling terminal:

It is considered one of the newest container terminals in Egypt and is characterized by advanced technologies and infra-structure designed to enhance operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. The following are the terminal's most prominent features:



The terminal's capacity:

- The annual capacity: 1.6 million ordinary container and can be increased to 2 million containers.

- Types of handled containers include imported and exported containers, direct transit, the empty, hazardous and reefers.

Terminals installations:

- 4G technology: the first terminal in Egypt that depends on 4G network to have control over equipment and communications instead of Wi-Fi, hence reinforcing efficiency and continuity of processes.

- Automated trucks: it is the first terminal in Egypt that uses automated tucks (without driver) to carry out daily operations.

- Screening devices: fitted with devices for remote control screening for containers' inspection to ensure safety and security.

- Power charging stations for equipment: the terminal is equipped with- power charging stations for electric equipment for the sake of reducing carbon emissions; achieving a clean working environment.

- Storage yards for refrigerated\iced containers: the capacity for the first phase reaches 720 containers and can be increased to reach 1500.

- - A building for joint inspection of Customs and other inspection authorities to rapid and facilitate cargo release procedures.

- Berth cranes: the terminal is equipped with latest model 5 berth cranes that are capable of handling vessels of capacity reaching 24000 container and length reaching 400m.

- Yard cranes (RTG): the terminal contains also 19-yard cranes (RTG) to handle containers with high efficiency.

Navigational waterways data:

  • The waterway is of length 3 nautical mile and width 300m with depth reaching 26m up to the container terminal waterway to be 18m and a northern waterway that protects the port and the navigational waterway.

Pilotage:

  • Pilotage and towage in Abu Qir seaport are obligatory and is done through pilots and Naval Forces trailers where the port provides with naval services for vessels day and night; 24 hours daily.
