The Egyptian government is seeking, within the framework of enhancing infra-structure capabilities and supporting maritime transport competitiveness ,to implement development projects inside vital ports. Latest of which in assigning implementation of two strategic projects in Damietta port to Suez Canal for Maritime ports Development Co. with total investments reaching 8 milliard pounds: equivalent to nearly 170 million dollars.

The first project is establishment of a specialized terminal for grains handling, of berth length 850m and storage yard extending on an area of 270 thousand m2. And expected that its operational capacity inside the port will be 3.5 ton annually, with a storage capacity of about 6 million ton. Hence enhancing Food security system and supply chains efficiency.
The second project is establishing a multipurpose terminal that includes a berth of length 3320m, and operation yards of total 2.5 million m2, thus raising capacity of cargo handling inside the port to 20million ton annually and making use of its total area that nearly reaches 12 million m2

Thus, through developing infrastructure and providing with advanced facilities , the state is seeking to increase foreign investments and encourages maritime trade, hence positively reflecting on national economy and enhancing exporting efforts and creating new job opportunities, in addition to concentrating on sustainability and modern technology in ports’ management, in a way to cope with latest international criteria with regards to efficiency, rapidness and capacity and to enhance state’s status as a regional and logistic center.
