Admiral/ Tarek Adly, head of Damietta port board of directors has received Mr. Yang Yee, China consul general in Alex, and his accompanied delegation, this in an official visit that aimed to get acknowledged with the port’s capabilities and search means of development and enhancing cooperation opportunities between the two sides. Adly has assured that the visit comes assuring on the distinguishable relationships between Egypt and China and the partnership that links the two countries in different maritime transport fields, and pointing out that Damietta port has become now one of main feeders of Egyptian national economy, this amongst the modernizing developmental plan that maritime transport sector witnesses, he also declared that the authority is working in accordance with a comprehensive vision to enhance the port’s competitive capabilities.
During the visit demonstrative presentations have been displayed by the port’s authority that declared a comprehensive definition of the port’s strategic status amongst regional and Egyptian ports, and competitive privileges it enjoys, beside presentation of current projects and the promising investment opportunities that the port provides with in different services, logistic and maritime activities. Also the Chinese side has presented “China Harbour “ Co. activities in ARE and its role in implementing major projects related to maritime infra- structure and ports, and assuring on the company’s interest to expand cooperation with Damietta port in the light of what the port possesses from strong capabilities and promising opportunities for partnership and investment.
The visit ended by the delegation tour inside the port that included main vital facilities there, and currently implemented national projects; first of which is “Tahia Misr” container terminal project that will make a leap in the port’s capabilities and will increase operational efficiency and enhance the port’s role serving maritime trade traffic and supporting Egyptian economy.
From his side the consul general praised what he saw in the port whether the great development or the advanced standard of planning and organization; assuring the port possesses real components that qualifies it to become one of the most important ports in the region, as the current development reflects a clear vision to enhance logistic and maritime capabilities in Egypt that cope with international trade traffic.
He also pointed out to China interest to deepen cooperation with Egypt in the field of maritime transport, ports and infra- structure, and assuring that relationship between the two countries witnesses a continuous growth that opens the field for more partnerships and joint cooperation opportunities during the coming period.
