1Egyptian state procedures study to confront international challenges that faces transport and logistics sectorMost outstanding challenges of surrounding region that have negative impact on navigational traffic at Suez Canal and setting procedures undergone by the Egyptian state to confront such challenges and reducing its negative impacts.Ministry of transport2023 Challenges and International movements at surrounding region:

  • announcement of Economic channel (India- Middle East- Europe) signed in 8 September 2023 between KSA, USA for the establishment of green Crossing channels to cross the continents through the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to link Asia with Europe and which has been announced for in New Delhi.
  • Iraqi development road project –Big FAW port which is considered an extension to the Belt & the Road initiative.
  • the project of the establishment of Israeli Bin Gurion channel from Eilat port on Aqaba Bay until Askalan on the mediterranean.
  • establishment of a railway line in Israel between Ashdod and Eilat ports.
  • Reviving of ElHegaz railway line.
  • launching of general plan of the logistic centers in KSA; 59 center in number and of total area exceeding 100million m2.

The state’s plan and procedures to confront the challenges include 7 main aspects:

  • development and duality of Suez Canal navigational channel.
  • private industrial and economic regions.
  • planning and establishing 7 comprehensive international developmental logistic channels.
  • developing maritime transport industry.
  • establishing dry ports and logistic regions.
  • developing interconnection networks to link between dry and seaports and logistic areas (railways and land roads).
  • linking neighboring countries (maritime- river- land- railways).
  • Unifying the authorized entity for Egyptian ports to be under the umbrella of transport ministry (maritime transport sector and logistics) to solve any operational obstacles and for the enlargement in attracting operators and International navigational lines.
  • providing with required financing for the completion of the railway establishment and developing plan to link between dry and seaports with logistic regions, come within the framework of logistic channels establishment.
  • accomplishment of procedures concerning allocating required land for the establishment of dry ports and logistic regions.
  • enlargement in establishing private economic regions same as in Port Said region and to include the Economic Zone (industrial- logistic – services…..).
  • maximizing benefitting from Belt and Road initiative especially after Egypt joining Brix; making of Egypt a center for trade and logistics so as to make use of its strategic location for the Sake of Brix and maritime ports union; by giving crossing privileges and facilitations at maritime, dry and logistic ports and the Economic Zone, in order to constitute international logistic routes to serve international trade.
  • implementing Golden Triangle developmental area over many phases so that the first phase is maritime Safaga port region by exploiting the road network that has been recently developed and hence the electrical Express train third line in the future.
  • activating the promotional plan of Egyptian transport and logistics sector and studying the preparation of a national developmental file to host Expo exhibition 2025(where Saudi Arabia proposed to host its 2030edition); which
    expresses the development of logistic services sector in Egypt being a center for international trade, and assigning a state’s entity to adopt a file for the support of the state’s different sectors.
