Within the framework of the state’s strategy to convert into a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade, comes “Tahia Misr” container terminal at Damietta port to reveal a great construction technological boom, and with commence of super structure works by “Damietta Alliance Co.” ; that operates the terminal, it enters service being latest terminal on the Mediterranean.
The terminal has received 12 berth crane produced by Chinese HHMC co. and which is classified as latest equipment and characterized by exceptional capabilities that includes: Great lifting power that reaches 75 ton so as to deal with heavy containers .Enormous heights that reaches 57.5 m above berth
level , hence allowing for dealing with giant containers up till 11 container height .The outer crane’s arm reaches 72 m to cover biggest width of the giant vessel. Also Smart technicalities as it is fitted with safety systems and cameras and developed sensors; with complete integration with digital ports’ managing systems for instant follow-up of operations, also eco- friendly equipment in accordance with” Egypt 2030vision”
Moreover, towards converting to green ports, the terminal has received 40electric cranes (RTG);ecofriendly equipment that work with electricity to reduce carbon emissions, to cope with Egypt vision for sustainable development 2030, and to guarantee efficiency and rapid handling inside the terminal’s yards
Tahia Misr project reflects in numbers the volume of achievement: berths’ length reaches 1970m, depths 18 m to be able to receive global giant vessels, backyard 922 thousand m2, handling capacity is targeted to reach 3.5 million TEU annually. The project is in partnership with the global alliance of ( Germany EUROJET, Italy CONTSHIP and the navigational line Hapag Lloyds.
The project comes as an important part of transport ministry strategy to establish integrated logistic channels; Tanta/ Mansoura/ Damietta channel. And this channel links between Tanta logistic region and railways lines and the New
Damietta dry port reaching up to Damietta port; hence participating in converting Egypt into a global destination for transit trade and logistic services.
