Sukhna port is considered one of the main components of the comprehensive logistic channel “ Sukhna / ElDekheila for containers which links the two sea: Red sea and the Mediterranean. And the first project’s development terminals is the container terminal Hutchison; where accomplishment of its infra-structure has been executed 100% and ongoing is its super- structure.
Total port’s area reaches 29km2, and includes the port’s developmental works establishment of 5 new docks, 18km maritime berths of depth 18m, and also establishment of handling yards of an area 9.2 million m2 and logistic regions of area 5.2m2, and inner roads network of lengths 17km concrete berth and also railways lines network of length 30km linked with the rapid electric train.
The state is concentrating on converting the port into a hub port and increasing Egypt share in transit trade global market, and also super- structure establishment project; managing; operating, exploiting, maintaining and redelivery of Sukhna port container terminal, This comes within the framework of a comprehensive plan for the accomplishment and development of Sukhna port that the state is ongoing its implementation to become the biggest port on the Red sea; where the port’s location has been planned for to compete with global modern ports, hence serving regional and international trade traffic.
Moreover, there is cooperation with biggest global alliance in the field of managing and operating navigational lines and international container terminals, this within the framework of transport ministry comprehensive plan to constitute strategic partnerships with major companies in managing and operating global container terminals and navigational lines to guarantee arrival and calling of biggest number of global vessels at Egyptian ports, and doubling operational capacity of ports and expansion in transit trade so as to convert Egypt into a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade.
