Transport ministry continuous implementing one of the major strategic projects; the project of multi-purpose terminal “ Safaga2” at Safaga maritime port , this comes amongst the establishment plan of Grand Safaga Port , and within the Egyptian state vision to convert Egypt into a regional center for transport logistics and transit trade.

The terminal is established on an area about 776 thousand m2 and includes a berth of length 1100m, depth17m hence allowing reception of giant vessels. The national companies have accomplished the whole infra-structure 100% , whereas the super structure works have already started and expected to take nearly 2 million TEU, in addition to receiving general cargo of about 7 million ton, and this comes amongst the implementation of the comprehensive logistic channel project ( Safaga- Kena- Abu Tartour); one of the seven international logistic channels that Egypt is undergoing to enhance its location being a regional center for maritime transport and logistics.

The importance of the project is not limited to the commercial side only but also expands to include the developmental dimension of Upper Egypt.; hence participating in increasing the region’s exports and attracting investments in the fields of industry, logistic services, storage and manufacturing industries.

The terminal will also play an important role in maximizing dependence on railways for cargo transport, by its linkage with rapid electric train third line, and hence reducing the pressure on land roads in Upper Egypt governorates such as Kena, Luxor, Aswan, and Asuit and provides with comprehensive solutions for transport traffic.

Ministry of transport has already signed the final contract commitment to build and develop the terminal super structure and its management, operation and maintenance in cooperation with specialized international companies, to guarantee implementation of highest operational efficiency standards and copying with the international development in maritime transport and trade, besides participating in supporting national economy and enhancing Egypt status on global navigational map.
