Within the logistic framework of the Egyptian state towards developing ports and converting Egypt into a regional pioneering center in the field of transport, logistics and transit trade, “Tahia Misr 1”project at Damietta port continues its rapid implementation steps to become one of the biggest current national projects in the maritime field. Where Damietta Alliance Co, the terminal’s international operator, is ongoing implementation of the super structure works according to latest international systems. The terminal has been equipped with 12 giant berth cranes, up till now, specialized for containers’ handling, produced by Chinese HHMC Co, and which are considered latest advanced cranes internationally. Such cranes are distinguished by lifting capabilities reaching 75 ton, with the ability to deal with giant vessels of height reaching 11 container, as its arm’s length reaches 72m, operating height reaching 57.5m, and are fitted with advanced safety systems including sensors , cameras and comprehensive protection systems to guarantee safety of individuals and operations, in addition to its integration with smart ports’ systems that allows for instant operation follow- up and achieving highest operational efficiency rates
Moreover, within the state’s commitment to fulfill sustainable development targets 2030, the terminal has received up till now 30yard cranes, in a 40crane deal supply, specialized for serving handling yards. And such electric winches (RTG) cranes are of latest ecofriendly types , where it participates in reducing carbon emissions ; implementing the state’s instructions to implement green transport policies
.The terminal’s berths extend to 1970m length, of depth reaching 18m, whereas the terminal’s hinter yard is about 922 thousand m2 and of handling capacity reaching 3.5million TEU annually.
The project is implemented in partnership between Damietta Alliance Co; which includes German Eurojet, Italian kintship and the global international line HAPAG Lloyds
The project represents a pivotal part of transport ministry plan for the establishment of the comprehensive logistic channel ( Tanta- Mansoura- Damietta) and which includes; Tanta logistic region, Tanta railway- Mansoura- Damietta and the dry port at New Damietta and Damietta port.
This channel is considered one of the strategic components to convert Egypt into a regional channel for transport, trade and logistic services and a leap in maritime transport sector. And expected that operation of “Tahia Misr 1”container terminal will participate in enhancing Damietta port competitive capabilities and reducing operation time and also increasing logistic operations efficiency ; setting the port on international pivotal ports’ map, that are capable of receiving biggest container vessels.
