Damietta port authority has received the giant vessel YANG FAN that flies Panama flag, during its first voyages to the port on board of which biggest tonnage of general cargo received by the port since its establishment, where its total tonnage has reached about 121.220ton.
This tonnage is considered the highest ever in receiving general cargo in Damietta port. This shows the port’s increasingly capability in receiving and handling giant vessels and miscellaneous cargo with high logistic efficiency.
The vessel is considered one of the biggest general cargo vessels all over the world, where its length reaches 289m, width45m and of draught about 14m.
Admiral/ Tarek Adly, head of board of directors of Damietta port authority has praised such outstanding event, assuring that the reception of such kind of vessels is an indication that the port enjoys such operational and technical readiness and ability to deal professionally, especially that the vessel requested acute procedures for maneuvering and anchorage.
He also added that maritime services and units’ crews and pilots have shown distinguishable efficiency in steering directing the vessel until its anchorage safely in the shed of navigational procedures that take into consideration its dimensions and tonnage.
He also pointed out that unloading procedures were undertaken using modern equipment and advanced techniques of Sisco Trans Co. and that this achievement reflects the authority’s vision to enhance competitiveness of Damietta port on regional and international ports’ standards and its complete readiness to receive giant vessels , within the framework of the state’s strategy to develop maritime transport system and enhancing Egypt role being an international logistic center. Hence reflecting the strategic vision adopted by transport ministry for developing maritime ports: by increasing lengths, berths’ draught that allowed for receiving such kind of giant vessels.
Therefore, the reception of “YANG FAN” vessel with its unprecedented tonnage at Damietta port shows that the port has become a hub for general cargo international trade traffic; as it possesses technical capabilities, developed infra-structure and trained human cadres capable of achieving highest efficiency and performance rates.
