Alexandria General  Port authority has received giant container vessel MSC ANNA affiliated to MSA Egypt and which berths for the first time at the authority’s berths; berth 96 allocated for Alex container handling company at Dekheila port.

The vessel was built in 2016 and carries registration number IMO 9777204, and it is the biggest container vessel ever received by the authority; where its length is 400m and its draught reaches nearly 14mand its total tonnage reaches 187,587ton, and of capacity 19.372 TEU the vessel flies Liberia flag and has already started unloading tonnage once it arrived the port.

The authority has been prepared to receive the giant vessel, where it took all necessary required pre- procedures as soon as notified with the vessel berthing schedule at the port; including preparations for berthing planning studies and readiness of allocated berth that the vessel will berth on ;with regards to length and depth to receive such modern giant vessels ‘type.

In this context, the authority’s head  directed traffic and maritime services Dept. for the necessity of providing with all kind of technical and operational support during towage and pilotage processes; to guarantee highest efficiency and professional standards, where pilots and crew and  maritime units affiliated to the authority were keen to secure the vessel’s navigation on its entrance, passing by the navigation channel until accomplishment of berthing and mooring process safely. Also all stages of arrival and berthing have been monitored through advanced technical systems hence participating in completion of berthing process flexibly in least time. And this is considered an event that assures Alex authority ability to deal with  modern giant international vessels, and hence enhancing its status being a regional hub port capable of receiving growing international trade traffic.
