In a move that reflects the rapid growth in maritime transport and energy trading, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, witnessed the loading of the first LNG ship from Edku Specialized LNG Port in 2025. The visit took place during an inspection tour attended by ministry leaders, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), and officials from Shell and Petronas.
The Edku Specialized LNG Port is one of the most important Egyptian ports specializing in natural gas exports. Located on the Mediterranean coast, it boasts advanced facilities, including liquefaction facilities, marine piers, and an integrated shipping system, making it a strategic hub in the maritime energy system and regional and international trade corridors.
During the visit, the Minister emphasized that the loading of the first ship from the port this year represents a strong start to its maritime activity in 2025 and enhances Egypt’s regional role in exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG), especially in light of the rising global demand for clean energy sources.
He pointed out that the port’s advanced infrastructure and its integration with the Idku complex and its facilities represent a successful model of coordination between the energy and maritime transport sectors, contributing to achieving maximum economic returns for Egypt and its international partners.
Engineer Mohamed El Bahnasy, Chairman of the Egyptian Liquefied Natural Gas Company (ELNG), and the working team presented the port’s capabilities and planned future expansion. He explained that studies are underway to add LNG regasification facilities, which will contribute to increasing the port’s operational efficiency and accommodating the growing demand.
The Minister concluded his tour by thanking the port’s successful partners, including international companies and workers, emphasizing the importance of completing development projects to enhance the efficiency of specialized ports and strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional hub for energy trading and logistics services.
