“Sonker” terminal for liquefied bulk which is located at Sukhna port third dock is considered one of important strategic centers in Egypt located at Red Sea coast; being a vital important addition for petroleum products transport and for receiving, handling, and storage of petroleum products and exported liquefied gas and its re- pumping to the national network after converting it to its gas form.

 Eng. Karim Badawi, petroleum minister has assured state’s full support  for the efforts of development and raising efficiency of the infra- structure  for storage and handling of oil products hence reinforcing Egypt role being a regional center for energy and for sustainability of providing with and securing local market and different state’s economic sector’s needs; which is considered the main driver for the state’s developmental plans.

 Badawi also added that Sonker terminal is established according to latest techniques and technologies to achieve efficiency in operation and in maintaining safety and security, pointing out to the ministry readiness to provide with all sorts of support for implementation  of new projects that fulfills the interest of all parties, through comprehensive work and team work.

 Sonker terminal consists of a specialized berth for receiving oil  and liquefied natural gas tankers and with strategic storage area that includes warehouses for strategic storage of solar and butane gas of storage capacity 100 thousand square meter of solar and 150 thousand square meter of butagas, where petroleum products are received on the specialized berth for which. The system of handling and storage of solar has been operated in 2019 and that of handling and storage of butane gas in 2020. It also includes 3 pipelines for transporting both; 2 lines for butagas of length 4.5 km each to transport butane gas supplies to the national network and a line for solar of length 31km for the same purpose.
