Transport ministry is seeking to achieve several important projects most important of which is the project of establishing dry bulk terminal at Dekheila port which can store biggest quantity of grains to be an important strategic stock for the Egyptian state.
The projects aims at increasing the handling capacity and grain storage specially from wheat, corn and soybeans; where it is planned to increase capacity approximately from 6 to 7 million ton per year
The project consists of berths of length 1160m depth reaching 16m and land area reaching 300 thousand square meter.
And can receive 4 vessels of length 240m and the project implementation percentage is about 48% and implementation percentage of the project infra-structure has approximately reached 51%.
Alexandria port has also signed contract for building, developing, usage, operating. Exploiting, maintenance and re handing over the super structure of the terminal and logistic area for handling and manufacturing clean bulk cargo at Dekheila port on an area of 300 thousand square meter , in cooperation with Alexandria port authority and an alliance of several companies.
Alexandria port authority has assured that such signing of the contract comes to fulfill the vision of converting Egypt into a regional center for transport logistics and transit trade, and a completion of the giant projects that are currently implemented at Alex and Dekheila ports, and that are to be completed and expected after completion to make out of great Alex port one of the most important cornerstones hubs of maritime transport and logistics on the Mediterranean and a link between Africa continent and Asia and Europe continents.
