Suez Canal has witnessed the crossing of the oil tanker Chrysalis amongst the southern convoy in its first voyage coming from Seka port at India towards Sidi Kereir port at Alexandria.
The voyage is considered the first passage of an oil tanker the Suez Canal since the attack in Red Sea region last July. CHRYSALIS flies the flag of Liberia and of length 249m, 44 m width and of total tonnage 61341tons
Lieutenant general/ Osama Rabea, head of Suez Canal authority has assured that the return of the tanker to cross the Canal is a strong reassurance message of what the Red Sea region and the strait of Bab el-Mandeb have witnessed of positive developments that lead to start of stability return in the region and freedom of maritime navigation.
He also declared that the return of vessels’ crossing is a reality imposed by the lack of a sustainable alternative in the light of transportation high costs and the unavailability of required navigational services for vessels. This in addition to the environmental risks as the increase in carbon emission percentage resulting from the increase in fuel consumption.
Lieutenant general/ Osama Rabea has also stressed on that the Suez Canal will remain the first choice for giant navigational lines that are awaiting stability return in Red Sea region in order to cross the Canal again.
