Transport ministry ,lieutenant general/ Kamel ElWazir has assured that the ministry is ongoing to implement a comprehensive plan to develop maritime transport industry being one of” Egypt Vision 2030” pillars, pointing out that ongoing is retrieve of maritime commercial fleet power to reach 40 in the year 2030, to be capable of transporting 30million miscellaneous cargo tons annually instead of 20 vessel with transport capacity 9 million miscellaneous cargo tons ; this in order to serve the strategic cargo whether grains, petroleum and passengers between Egypt and rest of world countries.
The minister has also added that the coming period requires more concentration on conversion into green maritime transport and commitment to international environmental criteria, especially what concern reducing carbon emissions, usage of clean fuel and adopting modern techniques that participates in improving efficiency of energy consumption on vessels.
The national shipping Co. strategy and future targeted projects, from vessels that fly Egyptian flag, that aim at supporting the national commercial fleet have been also reviewed, and the minister stressed on having variety in maritime vessels in National Shipping Co. and support of the maritime fleet by adding new commercial vessels all the time, pointing out to the importance of the human factor as one of the cornerstones of maritime transport sector success. And showing that investment in training and qualifying technical and maritime cadres is always one of the important factors to maintain national fleet efficiency and enhance its ability to compete internationally, in addition to the great importance of the marketing sector in increasing the financial revenues.
