Alexandria Port authority has received for the first time the vessel (WAN HAI LINE 311) affiliated to Taiwan navigational line which is considered the biggest line in the world specialized in containers’ transport, where it owns a fleet that exceeded 120vessel and its service covers more than 90countries all over the world.

This step comes as a result of many efforts exerted by the authority in cooperation with Limited Gulf Egypt Co. together with Alexandria Company for Cargo and Container Handling that has received the vessel on berth25 allocated for it, this for the sake of enlarging the shipping network and providing with comprehensive logistic services.

All technical and organizational procedures have been undergone to receive the vessel whose  total tonnage reaches 27,800ton and is of length 213m thus the authority assures on its capability to cope with the rapidly increase in international trade traffic.

On the other hand, Alexandria port has received the giant vessel MAERSK HONG KONG for the first time, which is considered the biggest of the type that berths on Alex port berths up till now, and is of total tonnage reaching 154.000ton, length exceeding 353m, and draught reaching 16.7m and which berthed on one of  Alex port berths up till now, of total tonnage reaching about 154.000ton, and length exceeding 353m, draught reaching 16.7m, and has berthed on one of the berths of Tahia Misr multipurpose terminals.

The reception of the vessel came after less than ten days from receiving the giant container vessel  MSC ANNA at Dekheila port. And this reflects rapidness of  maritime achievements and glorifies the attraction of great shipping companies in the world to Alex ports.

Alex Port authority was previously prepared  to receive such giant vessels, where it took all required procedures as soon as it was notified by the vessels’ berthing schedule and traffic and maritime services departments have provided with all sorts of technical and operational support during pilotage and towage process, so as to guarantee highest professional and efficiency standards; where the pilots and maritime units and pilotage crew affiliated to the authority were keen to secure the vessel’s navigation  on entrance to the port’s region until it completed its berthing and mooring process safely. Also all stages of arrival and berthing have been monitored  through advanced technical systems.  And the authority assures that attracting such giant navigational entities is a milestone and a sign for the development of the Egyptian logistic system and enhances national ports’ ability to compete regionally and internationally, also reflects the integration of efforts  between the authority and public and private sectors  in order to achieve the state’s objectives in converting Egypt into a global center for trade and maritime services.
