Maritime Transport and Logistics sector has visited Damietta port authority within the framework of prime minister instructions to visit all Egyptian ports to review safety procedures there; this through the inspection committee headed by admiral/ Osama Negm, head of central Department of the sector’s maritime transport affaires and the membership of representatives of competent supervisory bodies, they were received by admiral/ Tarek Adly Abdallah, head of board of directors of Damietta port authority.
The committee’s work has started with an explanatory presentation from the concerned bodies and the authority leaders where they dealt with most important recommendations of previous inspection visits and consequent procedures of which and current inspection provisions. The committee members have made visits to review undergone safety procedures inside the port to guarantee safe and secure procedures and revising emergency plans and different scenarios to deal with different situations and the workers understanding of which, also safety procedures for environment preservation and reviewing a plan to get rid of wastes and combating oil pollution and extent and how to be practically applicable, also assuring efficiency of procedures by visiting all yards, warehouses, companies and berths to ensure safety and validity of equipment.
Moreover, during the visit there have been assurance on safety procedures and the inspection of central examination laboratories and joint committees and maritime units to ensure its technical validity for sailing, also reviewing entrance and departure procedures from the port’s gates to shipments and cargo to ensure their safety. Also there has been estimation and simulation for a number of sudden emergencies in order to see handling efficiency of which, with all competent bodies; where a training maneuver of different scenarios have been undergone including possibility of internal fire occurrence inside marine trailer and how to deal with, this after the fire breaking out in methanol tank affiliated to one of the countries where there has been a follow up of handling procedures after which, from the companies workers until the c ivil protection forces arrival
The committee has ensured that Damietta port is ongoing in undertaking procedures to improve and develop the working system and raising its efficiency according to the instructions of lieutenant general Eng/ Kamel El Wazir, deputy prime minister for industrial development and industry and transport minister.
