General authority for land and dry ports has announced the port’s continuous receiving of exports and imports traffic going to and from Egyptian ports through railways, in a step that reflects the outstanding role that the port undergoes to support transport and logistics system in Egypt..

The authority assured in its statement that October dry port has become a cornerstone in international trade traffic due to its strategic location and its developed services, where it represents a leap in multipurpose transport system; through its direct linkage between the maritime ports and railway network, hence participating in more rapidness and efficiency in cargo handling and reducing Customs’ release time.

 The statement has declared that the port effectively participate in avoiding containers’ congestion in seaports, as it provides with rapid effective Customs’ procedures that go in accordance with a modern digital system, in addition it contains public and private warehouses for imported cargo storage, and  providing with added value services that include stevedoring processes and mixing between local and foreign products for the sake of re- exporting, in addition to maintaining and inspecting reefers containers.

The port provides for importer possibility of storing exported cargo in Customs’ warehouses, so as to be released on his demand and payment of Customs’ duties of released quantities only, thus provides flexibility for the investor in managing their stock and reduces financial burdens.

 Moreover, the port participates in lessening pressure on land roads and reduces corrosion rates resulting from passage of heavy transport trucks; through depending more on railways in cargo transport, thus leading to decrease in operational costs, and reducing harmful emissions for the environment and fuel consumption used in land transport.

The port is considered an example of modern logistic land and dry ports that supports Egyptian state vision in establishing a smart sustainable transport system, through linkage between maritime ports and dry ports and industrial regions, hence enhancing Egypt competitiveness in the field of global trade and serves the objectives of comprehensive urban and economic developments The authority has assured that that work is ongoing for more services’ developments provided by the port and expansion of its capacity to cope with the increasingly growth of cargo traffic.
