Red Sea Ports authority has announced its achieved leap in general cargo handling rates during the year 2024, where the ports affiliated to the authority have registered handling of 8 million and 136 thousand tons, with an increased percentage of 26.19% compared with the year 2023. Imports have witnessed an exceptional performance of quantity reaching 5million and 547 thousand ton; achieving an increase of 31.7% compared with the year 2023, and exceled the imports during the same period with a percentage of 114%, as imports reached 2millions and 592 thousand ton.
Safaga port comes first with a handling of 5 million and 615 thousand cargo tons; with an increase reaching 18% compared with the year 2023; 2 million and 230 thousand ton of which imports and 3 million and 385 thousand exports including general miscellaneous and dry cargo, aluminum, wheat and phosphate.
Whereas Suez port has achieved handling 537 thousand ton with a noticeable increase of 50.54% than previous year: including 53 thousand ton imports and 484 thousand tons exports, the cargo included flour, sugar and miscellaneous and general cargo.
Nuweiba port:
Nuweiba port has continued its distinguished performance with the handling of 69 thousand cargo ton, with an increase percentage reaching 34.61 %; including 202thousansd import tons and 867 thousand export tons; that included citrus, vegetables, wood, and miscellaneous and general cargo.
ElZaityat port :
ElZaityat port has received 107 thousand tons of propylene and solar, and ElHamrawein port has participated in supporting exports traffic with the handling of 107 thousand phosphate tons.
The State’s exerted efforts in the ports development:
Admiral/ Mohamed Abd ElReheem, head of Red Sea Ports authority has praised such achievements ensuring the increase in cargo handling and exports is due to the State’s exerted efforts in developing the ports and upgrading their infra-structure and that the reduce in Customs release time and providing with operational facilities have participated in achieving such encouraging results. He also assured that the strategic partnerships between the state and the private sector have played an important role in developing maritime berths and strengthened ports’ readiness to receive the increasing export traffic. He again stressed on the importance of developing new navigational lines to cope with the state’s objectives; to enlarge its maritime fleet and reinforce Egyptian ports’ competitiveness on both regional and international levels.
Integrated plans for modernizing ports and linking them with dry ports:
Admiral / Mohamed Abd ElReheem has also pointed out that such distinguishable performance of Red Sea port comes as a result of integrated plans to modernize the ports and linking them dry ports and logistic regions by a developed road and railway network, declaring that ports’ services efficiency improvement reinforces the capability of Egyptian ports growth and supports the state’s efforts to achieve a leap in exports and imports traffic, ensuring that the authority is ongoing work to accomplish future developmental projects to meet the need of local and international trade traffic and fulfill the state’s vision to strengthen Egypt Status being a regional center for trade and logistic services.
