Maritime transport and logistics sector has celebrated on Saturday 20/9/2025 at Palestine hotel in Alex World Maritime Day under the slogan” “Our Ocean… Our Commitment… Our Opportunity” under the auspices of lieutenant general/ Kamel ElWazir, prime minister deputy head for industry and transport and transport and industry minister and in the attendance of outstanding personalities; lieutenant general/ Ahmed Khaled, Alex governorate and admiral/ Nehad Shahin, transport minister assistant , Dr. Ismail Abd ElGhaffar head of AAST, Dr. Abd ElAziz Konsowa, head of Alex university, Mr. Ahmed ElWakil , head of Egyptian commercial chamber, Mr. Mohamed Moselhy, head of Arab maritime navigational chamber and a number of Arab and foreign ambassadors and consuls.
Admiral Dr. Nehad Shahin in his speech, on behalf of lieutenant general Kamel ElWazir, has assured that the state has already started practical steps to convert ports of Alex, Port Said and Damietta into green ports, through wind and solar energy integration in operational systems. Such efforts has resulted in reducing Carbon dioxide emissions by about 68.7 thousand TEU ton annually in Alex port, 25.8 thousand ton in Port said port, 6.4 thousand ton in Damietta port ; which reflects Egypt’s commitment to limit climate change and protect oceans, and opens new horizons for green investment in Egyptian Maritime Transport and Logistics sector.
The celebration included IM secretary general speech and a short film under water that enhance maritime environment protection and safety procedures. Moreover, rear admiral/ Hussein Elgezery head of MTLS has delivered a speech in which he assured that oceans grant us the air we breathe, the food we eat, job opportunities and climate that we depend on and now it sends clear signals for aid most outstanding of which is the plastic pollution, emissions resulting from vessels’ fuel combustion, and the climate change that led to unprecedented increase in temperature degree, rise of sea level, and stressing on the necessity of integrating efforts to prevent maritime biological change and oceans protection being a life artery and sustainable development cornerstone.
During the celebration there was a distribution of awards for the winning authorities and personalities where Dr. Amr Hamouda, head of marine risk reduction center gain award for achieving maritime environment sustainability and also excellence award for marine environment protection was won by chemist/ Ahmed Kassem Setah from environment affair authority , and chemist/ Noha Abdalla ElTaktely from Alex Port authority. Whereas, award for best specialized environment protection organization went to Mr. Ahmed Fathi Ahmed, head of board of directors of “ Youth Loving Egypt” organization, whereas Mr. Mohamed Moselhy won excellence award for Egyptian maritime transport industry support. Also award of best initiative for qualifying specialized human cadres in marine casualties investigations went to lawyer/ Ashraf ElSweify and engineer/ Ahmed Mohamed Nassar head of board of directors of NASSA Marine Co.
The celebration was concluded by choosing lieutenant general/ Kamel ElWazir deputy prime minister for industry and transport and transport and industry minister as best “Public personality “for his outstanding national role and continuous efforts to promote comprehensive development and setting new rules of modern renaissance in industry and transport.
