As part of the celebrations for the International Day for Women in Maritime 2025, the Maritime Transport & Logistics Sector took part in the Egyptian Women’s Forum for Research and Innovation in the Maritime Sector – ARISE.

The forum witnessed the participation of representatives from several key maritime entities in Egypt, including Alexandria Port Authority and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Regional Presence Office in Egypt, alongside a distinguished group of prominent figures and pioneering women in the maritime field.



On behalf of Rear Admiral Tarek Abdallah Ahmed, Head of the Maritime Transport & Logistics Sector,  Rear Admiral Hisham Gaaesa delivered a keynote speech in which he emphasized the growing importance of women’s role in advancing development within the maritime transport sector. He praised the outstanding contributions made by female professionals across various positions and affirmed that empowering women has become a core pillar in the development and modernization of Egypt’s maritime transport system.

In recognition of her exceptional role in serving and supporting seafarers’ welfare for over twenty years, Mrs. Hemat Mohamed Abu El-Azayem, Director of Seafarers’ Affairs at the Maritime Labor Administration, was honored for her sincere efforts and continued dedication in managing one of the most vital departments dealing with human resources in the sector.


The forum also honored Ms. Fatma Abdel Hamid, who was awarded the title of “Personality of the Year” for being a pioneering female leader in the maritime transport sector. With a professional career spanning over forty years, she held several senior leadership roles, beginning as Director General of Maritime Transport Affairs and culminating in her appointment as Advisor to the Minister of Transport. She has been a shining example of professionalism, dedication, and excellence.


Additionally, the forum featured the honoring of several other distinguished figures from both the public and private sectors, as part of its aim to highlight successful role models and reinforce the role of Egyptian women in this strategic sector.
