In support of strengthening integrity and governance within the maritime transport sector, the Maritime Transport & Logistics Sector hosted the delegation of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) at the conclusion of its official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. The visit included field visits to a number of major ports, namely Alexandria Port, Damietta Port, and East Port Said.
The closing meeting was held at the Sector’s headquarters and chaired by Maritime Transport & Logistics Sector.
The meeting was attended by the designated focal points from the Egyptian Maritime Safety Authority and the ports of Alexandria and Damietta, as well as representatives of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, in addition to representatives of Eldib Pandi Company in its capacity as the local coordinating office of MACN in Egypt.
During the meeting, the Maritime Transport & Logistics Sector presented an overview of the measures implemented at Egyptian ports to address and prevent all forms of improper practices. The MACN delegation also presented the outcomes of its field visits, highlighting key observations and assessments related to the procedures adopted to enhance integrity. The delegation commended the tangible progress achieved in institutional work mechanisms, the integration of roles among port stakeholders, and the expansion of digital transformation applications that contribute to enhanced oversight and streamlined procedures.
The meeting further featured an in-depth discussion on mechanisms for activating the cooperation protocol signed between MACN and the Maritime Transport & Logistics Sector. This included a review of the executive actions taken during the previous period and an examination of ways to respond to the observations raised, ensuring sustainable development and improved operational efficiency in line with international standards.
Future frameworks for cooperation were also addressed, with emphasis placed on the importance of continued coordination and follow-up through clear mechanisms, in cooperation with the local office responsible for monitoring MACN activities within Egypt.
The meeting concluded with agreement on a number of executive steps and proposed recommendations for the upcoming period, aimed at enhancing the ranking of Egyptian ports in integrity and governance indicators and reinforcing the confidence of international shipping lines and the global business community in the operational environment of Egyptian ports.
