Egypt was re-elected to the Council of International Maritime Organization (IMO) in category “C” . Egypt secured 135 out of 160 during the elections held during the session of the IMO General Assembly meetings in London.

The North African country obtained 135 votes out of a total of 160 countries with the right to vote, which is the highest number of votes among Arab and African countries nominated for category C, and the second highest number of votes among all candidate countries in this category. This great victory is due to great effort and support, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – through our embassy in London – has made every effort during the past months, in addition to the close cooperation and coordination led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between it and the Ministry of Transport and the Egyptian maritime transport system in its public and private sectors.

It reflects the global confidence that Egypt enjoys in its diplomacy in international forums, as well as Egypt’s leading role in the field of global maritime transport and navigation in light of its capabilities, expertise and capabilities, as well as its geographical location, which represents the heart of the world through its maritime borders on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
