Transport ministry is implementing a global container terminal with latest technologies, with biggest navigational line in the world, on a berth of length 1200m( of berth 100 total length that reaches 1680m), depth 18m, area of about 840thousand m2 and capacity reaching 1.5 million TEU , and the biggest part of which will be for transit containers , so that Dekheila port will become one of the most important ports on the Mediterranean for such trade type.
The project provides with more than 2000 job opportunity whether direct or indirect, and the berth serves the giant vessels of length 400m up to 24 thousand TEU. Also, the super- structure contract has been signed for, establishing, managing , operating, exploiting, maintaining and redelivery of the container terminal on berth 100, between Alex port authority and the international alliance MSC Hutchison; this within the framework of implementing the project of establishing Sukhna- Alex comprehensive logistic hub network for containers to link between the Rea Sea and the Mediterranean.
Egyptian ports are witnessing huge developmental work including developing of already existing ports and establishing berths and new terminals in them with international specifications to receive giant vessels, hence serving Egyptian economy and copying with vessels’ developments; this includes development of all ports and amongst the ongoing projects is implementation of “Tahia Misr2” multipurpose terminal on berth 100 at Dekheila port and the accomplishment of Sukhna port developments
