Transport ministry is implementing Safaga 2 multipurpose terminal at Safaga seaport project, within the port’s implementation plan of grand Safaga port, and within the framework of implementing all Egyptian ports aiming at converting Egypt into a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade; implementing president Sisi ARE president instructions .
The project is implemented on an area of nearly 776 thousand m2 with a berth of 1100m, depth 17m. the project infra- structure works have been accomplished 100% and were implemented by specialized Egyptian national companies. And the terminal’s super structure works have started and planned to be of capacity 2 million TEU.
The terminal implementation comes within the framework of implementing the comprehensive logistic channel ( Safaga- Kena- Abu Tartour) one of the 7 international logistic channels that Egypt implements in order to become a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade.
The terminal is considered the main gate for Upper Egypt region and will participate in serving all mining activities and in export and import work and benefitting from the developmental works at north, mid and south of Upper Egypt and linking them with the port, besides attracting investments in the field of industry, storage and logistic services and compiling and transporting containers and cargo from South the Valley to Safaga port also participates in maximizing cargo transport using railways; where Safaga port will be linked with the rapid electric train third line, hence participating in relieving pressure on roads specially in Upper Egypt governorates: Kena, Asuit, Aswan and Luxor.
Moreover, final contract was signed; commitment for building and developing the superstructure and usage, managing, operating and redelivery of the terminal within transport ministry comprehensive plan for cooperation with specialized international companies to guarantee highest efficiency and copying with international navigational and commercial development, raising national economy, qualifying seaports and attracting global trade and navigational lines.
