Head of Suez Canal authority, lieutenant general/ Osama Rabea’ has assured that launching of the two tugboats “ Azem1” and “Azem2” is a valuable addition to Suez Canal fleet capabilities in the field of maritime salvage, in addition to pilotage missions, and pointing out here to the great pulling power of Azem type that reaches 90 ton and its other developed navigational privileges. This was during Misr factory for building tugboats at Safaga celebrating the launch of the two tugboats “ Azem1” and “Azem2” being the first production line of the factory for producing 10 maritime tugboats for the sake of Suez Canal authority
Rabea’ has also pointed out that Suez Canal is following an ambitious plan to convert into an authority for economic multipurpose activities and a promising platform providing different logistic and maritime services and this is shown and reflected in Misr factory and Suez Canal Co. for modern boats in Safaga free Zone in order to localize maritime industry. And this step also comes within the ambitious authority’s strategic framework to develop and upgrade its maritime fleet in accordance with international technologies; to cope with rapidly developments in maritime transport industry and meet the canal working needs in different fields whether pilotage, steering or in emergencies.
The two tugboats are considered a result of the authority’s trend towards enhancing cooperation with the private sector through a number of partnerships and this comes within of an ambition plan to maximize revenues and get different income sources. He also stressed that partnership with South Red Sea Shipyard Co. has several developmental dimensions; establishing a comprehensive industrial complex that provides with job opportunities and also participates in qualifying technical specialized cadres in maritime industries this through studying the establishment of a training center in accordance with international accredited technical criteria.
He also added that such partnership with the company had its positive impact to support its enlargement and development; most outstanding of which is establishing an outer building yard, marine pier and the import of equipment and machines and maritime units elevators. Adding that ongoing is the development of the Egyptian fishing fleet following the presidential instructions to build high sea fishing vessels in cooperation with Red Sea shipyard and accomplishment of instruction works of a factory for building tourist Yachts .
Rabea’ has also declared that the authority is ready to launch its biggest maritime tugboat of pulling power 190ton during the coming period and will be built in Alex shipyard.
Furthermore, he mention that with regards to Green conversion efforts the authority is developing its maritime fleet and supporting it with ecofriendly units, this within the authority plan announcing Suez Canal a “ green canal “by the year 2030, ;reducing carbon emissions copying with IMO recommendations,
The authority has recently announced providing with ecofriendly services by its launch of the service of compiling and abolishing solid wastes from vessels crossing the canal , this through the pioneer Greek company in this field “V Group» in cooperation with ANTIPOLLUTION EGYPT group.
