Maritime transport and logistics sector has celebrated Saturday 5/10/2024 at Palestine hotel at Alexandria, World Maritime Day under the slogan” navigation in the future …. Safety first” under the auspices of vice admiral/ Kamel El Wazir , deputy prime minister for industrial development and industry and transport minister, in the attendance of a number of outstanding characters: vice admiral, Osama Rabea head of Suez Canal Authority, admiral/ Ahmed Khaled, Alexandria governor, admiral/Nehad Shaheen, deputy minister for maritime transport affaires, Dr/ Ismail Abd El Ghaffar, head of AAST, Mr. Ahmed El Wakil, head of Egyptian chamber of commerce, Mr. Mohamed Moselhy, head of Arab Union for Maritime Navigation chambers , and a number of Arab and foreign countries consuls and ambassadors.

In his speech vice admiral/ Kamel El Wazir assured on the importance of reinforcing safety measures and procedures and preserving the maritime environment to cope with rapid technological transformations that the sector witnesses, pointing out to the state’s efforts to convert Egypt into a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade; by implementing comprehensive infra structure projects that include the establishment of dry ports and new logistic regions, and also strategic aspects for maritime ports’ development ; including the establishment of new berths and deepening navigational channels, hence strengthening Egyptian ports’ capability to receive international trade traffic


The secretary general of the International Maritime Organization has delivered a speech which has been presented in this occasion with a film concerning Egyptian ports followed procedures in order to support safety procedures and environment preservation. Also, admiral/ Tarek Abdalla, head of maritime and logistics sector has delivered a speech during the celebration ensuring Egypt’s commitment to achieve highest maritime safety standards; pointing out to the central role that modern technology plays in improving safety standards and reducing casualties. He also pointed out to Egyptian maritime sector achievements during this year, where the Egyptian maritime ports have achieved a noticeable growth in cargo and vessels’ traffic, assuring on the importance of international and regional cooperation in supporting the ports’ efficiency and facilitating international trade.

Moreover, admiral/ Osama Rabea, head of Suez Canal Authority in his speech has assured that there is no sustainable alternative for Suez Canal on the medium and long term and that it will remain the first choice for the biggest navigational lines and that their return is inevitable once there is stability in the region.


Whereas, Dr, Ismail Abd El Ghaffar, head of AAST declared in his speech how the academy is always seeking to become a pioneer in the field of education and maritime training; providing with high quality academic and training programs. Furthermore, Alexandria governor, Adm/ Ahmed Khaled, pointed out in his speech to the developments that Alexandria governorate witnesses in super and infra structure that help in raising the efficiency of the governorate’s services.


During the ceremony there has been distribution of awards to winning authorities and personnel, where EAMS obtained excellent award in achieving highest percentage of foreign vessels’ inspection in the mediterranean and the award was received by Adm / Hussein ElGezeiry, head of the authority. Also Red Sea Port authority has obtained excellent award in implementing the investment plan and was received by the authority head Eng, Mohammed Abd El Reheem, Hameed. Also, SCEZ has received an award for East Port Said port having an advanced position in the world ranking and the award was received by Adm, Mohamed Ahmed, deputy authority head. Moreover, Alexandria port authority has received an excellent award in applying safety standards for hazardous cargo and container handling and was received by Adm, Ahmed Hawwash, the authority head. Furthermore, Damietta port authority has received an award for its precedency in activating the Single Port Window and the reward was received by Adm/ Tarek Adly head of authority. Also, Abu Keir port has been rewarded for MSW and precedency in latest technology usage in operating the port and the reward went to Mr. Wessam Azab, the port’s manager. This in addition to Damietta company for cargo and container handling winning an award for entering the list of best 100 container ports in the world for the year 2024, and the award was received by Adm. Dr. Rafeek Galal, also MTS legal counselor, Mr. Mohamed Reyad has been awarded for his work and his vital role in leading the team work of the unified maritime safety law project.


Moreover, in the ceremony many personnel have been honored where master/ Hossam ElDin Arafat, MTS ports projects’ general manager was honored an award for his distinguishable efforts in managing foreign yacht tourism Single Window, and also Mr., Ahmed Essam Abd ElMoneim from Abu Keir port for his distinguishable work, and Mr. Ahmed Abd ElDayem, MTS info. and digital transformation Center general director was awarded for his distinguished exerted efforts in managing the sector’s Maritime Single Window system. Also master/ Ali Assem, head of East Port Said Central Dept. has received an award for his exerted efforts helping in setting East Port Said port on the world map. Again, the ceremony witnessed a special celebration for the maritime legislation team for their efforts in accomplishing the unified maritime safety law through out 3 continuous years. Also, Mr. Mohamed kabary, Mr. Abu Mandour Yehia, Mr. Islam ElShahaly from EAMS, and Ms. Nebal Medhat from maritime transport and logistics sector, all have been awarded.

On the other hand, model employees have been honored, from different port authorities and from Maritime Transport and logistics sector: Mr. Peter Eskandar from Alex Port authority, Eng. Reham ElRefaey from Damietta port authority, Mr. Gamal Mostafa from Red Sea port authority, Mrs. Rohanda Abd ElMoneim from SCEZ and Mr. Hesham El Shenawy from Maritime Transport and logistics sector.


Furthermore, the ceremony has honored vice admiral/ Osama Rabea, head of Suez Canal authority, vice admiral/ Ahmed Khaled, Alex governor, Dr. Ismail Abd El Ghaffar, head of AAST, Mr. Ahmed El Wakil, deputy head of Egyptian chamber of commerce and Mohamed Moselhy, head of Arab Union of Maritime navigation chamber.


Finally, admiral/ Reda Ismail Ahmed, previous MTS head and transport minister counsellor has been chosen as personality of the year for his tangible efforts and outstanding achievements during his presidency of the sector.
