A comprehensive inspection tour at Damietta port authority has been undergone by maritime transport and logistics sector headed by admiral\ Osama Negm, head of maritime transport affaires central Dept. and membership of Mr. Mohamed Hussein, Mr. Ahmed Nour, and Mr. Ashraf ElDomiaty; this within the framework of the sector’s plans to enhance safety and security system in Egyptian ports.
The committee’s work lasted for 3 days during the period from 7 to 9 July 2025 and the opening meeting was headed by admiral\ Ahmed Hamdy Abd ElAziz deputy head of board of directors for operation and in the attendance of the authority’s officials and representatives of monitoring authorities in the port’s community, where an explanatory presentation was made that included most outstanding previous inspection recommendations and what have been achieved towards which, in addition to debating current inspection articles.
After the meeting, the committee has undergone an enlarged tour that included all the port’s facilities in order to evaluate establishments and workers’ commitment to safety criteria, crisis scenarios and the team readiness. Also reviewing environment protection procedures and getting rid of wastes and maritime oil pollution combating mechanism were done.
The field tour has also included a visit to operation and crisis management center to assure response system efficiency in addition to visiting yards, stores, berths and equipment status with regards to technical safety. Moreover, there has been evaluation for civil protection units, central examination labs and joint examination committees, in addition to inspecting the maritime units to see its readiness for sailing. Thus the committee has implemented several field maneuvering scenarios in cooperation with Damietta port authority and Damietta cargo and container handling company, port’s police and civil Protection that included the following:
Leakage of an inflammable substance from a container and automated handling of which in coordination with Civil Protection
A virtual Fire extinguish of maritime units accommodation building and its evacuation by trained teams
Ignition of maritime trailer and of fire on board ship of one of petrochemicals companies
Oil spill inside port dock and its disinfection using cleansing and scraping equipment
Maritime trailer’s stranding; assuming water leakage inside it and crew rapid response has been tested.

All such scenarios have shown the authority and its employees capabilities in professional handling with different types of emergencies and have also reflected high standard of coordination between working entities in the port.
In such maneuvering many of the maritime services fleet units have participated, without any effect on operational works; amongst which the trailer “Abu Gendia” , rapid fire extinguish launch”Ezzat”, maritime pollution combating launches “3 and 4”. And the two trailers “Soliman” and “Saleh”, New Damietta pilotage launch, Damietta 1, 2, 5″ in addition to ambulance units
On the other hand, admiral\ Tarek Adly, head of board of directors of Damietta port authority has assured the authority’s keenness to develop work system and raising its efficiency; implementing the instructions of lieutenant general\ kamel Elwazir, deputy prime minister for industrial development and transport and industry minister.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the port is ongoing enhance of safety and environment protection criteria, beside accelerating stevedoring procedures and reducing time of Customs release in cooperation with all entities inside the port community.
