After attaining the third largest number of votes with 142 votes out of a total of 166 valid votes, Egypt has maintained the membership it sustained since 1977.
MINISTER OF TRANSPORT: We extend our congratulations to His Excellency the President and the magnificent Egyptian people on the occasion of this great victory, which embodies Egypt’s pivotal role in the region and the world, and vents an affirmation of the leading position that Egypt occupies in the field of maritime transport and global trade.
In a statement issued today, the Ministry announced Egypt’s success in winning Class C membership in the International Maritime Organization Council. This was during the elections held today at the Organization’s headquarters in the British capital, London, where Egypt received the third largest number of votes, with 142 votes out of a total of 166 valid votes.
Lieutenant General Engineer / Kamel Al-Wazir – Minister of Transport praised this great success achieved by Egypt in the International Maritime Organization elections, pointing out that it is due to the immense support of the political leadership, which enlists among its priorities raising Egypt’s rank at the international level in all fields and as a culmination of intensive efforts between the two Ministries of Transport. and Foreign Affairs as well as the Egyptian Embassy in London, where coordination continued over the past two years in order to promote advocating the Egyptian candidacy and preserve Egypt’s seat in the Council, which it has held since 1977, indicating that the victory achieved by Egypt in the IMO elections is a triumph for Egyptian willpower and diplomacy.

It is worth mentioning that the International Maritime Organization is a specialized international organization affiliated with the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 and has its headquartered in London. Its foci include (maritime safety and security. – Combating acts of piracy and armed robbery targeting ships. – Combating marine pollution. – Establishing a system to compensate people who suffer financial losses due to marine pollution – Establishing an international system for distress calls and search and rescue operations. – Achieving a sustainable marine system.
Through the International Maritime Organization, energy efficiency, new technology and innovation, maritime education and training, maritime security, maritime traffic management and maritime infrastructure development are promoted; global standards covering these issues are also applied. The International Maritime Organization consists of 5 main committees and 9 subcommittees emanating from it, in addition to the organization’s Board of Directors and its General Assembly.
Consolidation of Joint Cooperation in The Field of Maritime Transport Between The Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
In the framework of joint efforts and cooperation in the field of maritime transport and ports between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the work of the Egyptian-Jordanian Technical Committee for Maritime Transport was concluded on August 10.
The Jordanian side was chaired by the Acting Director General of the Jordanian Maritime Authority, Eng. Muhammad Al-Ash’al, and the Egyptian side was chaired by the Head of Maritime Transport & Logistics Sector R. Adm. Reda Ismail.
The Egyptian-Jordanian Technical Committee meetings discussed multiple topics:
• Advancements accomplished by Maritime Transport and Port Sectors in both countries were reviewed
• Challenges facing both Maritime Administrations.
• Reinforcing Joint cooperation between their respective Maritime Administrations.
• The mechanism for verifying maritime certificates, exchange of experiences and transfer of knowledge in the fields of maritime transport.
• Expanding the scope of joint cooperation in maritime education and training via accredited maritime colleges and academies in both countries.
• Methods and mechanisms for cooperation in joint exercises in the field of search and rescue.
• The mechanism for developing and updating a number of previously signed Memorandums of Understandings in the field of Maritime Transport and examined their suitability to keep pace with the aspirations of the two countries.
• Ways of fostering trade exchange activity between the two countries and facilitating procedures through the optimal application of relevant International Agreements.
The two parties also welcomed the reciprocal support in international forums, especially the International Maritime Organization.
