Within the framework of reinforcing cooperation with Greece in the field of maritime transport, Ports and maritime tourism, first joint navigational committee meeting has been held today at maritime transport sector headquarters headed by both head of maritime transport sector admiral/ Reda Ismail and Mr.Evanglos Kiriazilous, secretary general of maritime affaires – Greece maritime transport ministry accompanied by a high level delegation of head of Foulous, Saloniki and Berious ports and head of Greece port authority – ministry of transport and in the attendance of tourism ministry secretary general. And from the Egyptian side, head of Alexandria port authority and of Damietta port authority and deputy head of SCEZ and of AAST.
The meeting has dealt with and pointed out to the importance of distinguished maritime and strategic relationships between the two countries and the signed MOUs and the ongoing work through the past two years to achieve more partnership between the two countries in the field of maritime transport and maritime tourism.
Also has been discussed reinforcement of ports cooperation and the accomplishment of cargo and passengers’ ro -ro line project between Alexandria port and Foulous port and agreement on joint work and coordination with IMO. Moreover, the two sides agreed upon cooperation in the field of seafarers’ training and mutual approval of seafarers’ certificates and cooperation between the two countries’ academies. Furthermore, both sides agreed to cooperate within the framework of strategic partnership between Egypt and EU, signed 17 March and which includes maritime transport.
Both sides also debated cooperation and joint tourism promotion for the ports of both countries: as yacht tourist destinations and again joint cooperation in different forums and tourism organizations. And finally, the Greek Consul General and head of committee from both sides have signed a memorandum of understanding between Alexandria port and Foulous port, first MOU: technical approval to be accredited and signed officially in the next tripartite Presidential summit in Cairo between Egypt, Greece and Cyprus. Also, the committee protocol and points of joint cooperation have been signed. At the end, the Greek side has sincerely thanked the Egyptian side for the distinguished cooperation and agreed upon steps to promote maritime relationship between the two countries.
