Lieutenant general Osama Rabea/ head of Suez Canal authority has announced that navigational traffic in the canal has witnessed crossing of the giant container vessel CMA CGM SEINE; one of biggest container vessels in the world in its first voyage crossing the canal, amongst the north convoy coming from Morocco towards Malaysia.

The vessel is affiliated to French navigational line CMA CGM, and works amongst the navigational service Fal3; working on trade route between Europe and Far East, and is considered latest vessel of the group 2025 and is of length reaching 399m, width 61.3m, draught 40feet and of tonnage 250thousand ton and can carry up to 23876 container on board of which.

Head of the authority has directed to undertake all measures and required procedures to guarantee the vessel secure crossing, by assigning a group of the authority’s senior pilots and providing with navigational aids of accompanied trailers in addition to instant follow up from traffic head office and pilotage terminals existing all along the canal.

Moreover, according to the protocol followed by Suez Canal authority in dealing with vessels crossing the canal for the first time, and on behalf of Rabea, senior first pilots: masters/ Abd ElRahman Shahin and Saied Emam went on board the vessel and saluted its crew and gave a souvenir to its master.

Lieutenant general Osama Rabea/ head of Suez Canal authority has assured on that return of biggest and latest container vessels in the world reflects confidence in the Canal readiness and status; being the best sustainable route for global trade traffic crossing between the East and West.

He also added that this is an important step that has its impact on making positive changes in maritime transport market and urging other navigational lines to modify their sailing schedules and retrieve their voyages in Red Sea region and Bab Elman dab passing by the Suez Canal.

Rabea has again pointed that the canal has concentrated during the past period on raising maritime and navigational services standards and having more new services to meet its clients’ needs and guarantee highest maritime safety criteria for giant vessels and maritime units of special dimensions.

Head of the authority also added that there has been an increase in crossing rates of container vessels affiliated to the French group CMA CGM , which are of net tonnage 130 thousand ton to reach 15 vessel since last December, out of total 35 vessel that have crossed the canal since May and that benefitted from flexible pricing policies that the authority follows.
