The Minister of Transport inspects the ongoing construction works of the multi-purpose terminal in Alexandria Port

In the course of his visit to Alexandria Governorate yesterday, Lt. Gen. Kamel El-Wazir, the Minister of Transport, visited the construction site of the multi-purpose terminal in Alexandria Port on berths 55 -62; He stressed the need to work around the clock, to comply with the pre-set time schedule for implementation (24 months), so that the terminal can be ready to receive ships of large sizes at the beginning of 2022. Stressing the importance of the project, H.E Lt. Gen. Kamel El-Wazir added that the terminal is one of the most significant projects implemented by the Ministry in the field of maritime transport. The multi-purpose terminal will contribute to raising the international classification of Alexandria Port, as well as granting the Port the capability of receiving vessels of large tonnage, given the dredging of the navigational channel of the port. It is noteworthy that the berths of the terminal are 2450 meters long, include handling yards of half a million square meters, and can receive from 6-7 vessels at the same time. It is capable of handling 12-15 million tons of cargo annually divided into 3 handling terminals: containers, general cargo and cars. The Egyptian Group for Multipurpose Terminals, (EGMPT) ; is the company responsible for establishing, managing and operating the terminal with the contribution of the Alexandria Port Authority, the Suez Canal Authority, the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport and the Alexandria Container Company.
