The Minister of Transport and the Chairman of the Suez Canal witness signing a contract for the construction of A Multi-purpose Terminal in Alexandria

The Minister of Transport, Lt. Gen. Engineer / Kamel Al-Wazir, and Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, witnessed the signing of the Concession Agreement of the multi-purpose terminal in Alexandria Port.
The Agreement was signed by Captain / Tarek Shaheen, Chairman of Alexandria Port Authority,               and R. Adm. / Abdel Qader Darwish, Chairman Egyptian Group For Multipurpose Terminals; whereby this signature gives the company the right to design, construct, manage and operate the terminal as well as to carry out its activities on land area of the terminal , which covers an area of ​​560 thousand m2 with berths of 2500 meters in length, so that it can handle both containerized and non-containerized cargoes within the range of 10 - 12 million tons annually. This signature coincides with the execution of the construction works of the terminal on the berths 55/62 in Alexandria Port
Lt. Gen. Engineer / Kamel Al-Wazir, stated that the Ministry of Transport aims for the Egyptian Group For Multipurpose Terminals to become the functional agency of the Ministry and the Egyptian government in managing and operating cargo handling terminals of all types in all ports of the Arab Republic of Egypt, indicating that the future vision of the company is to have a role in managing terminals in Regional and African Ports. Noting the significance of the project, which is considered one of the most important projects implemented by the Ministry in the field of maritime transport, as the project will contribute to raising the classification of Alexandria port, and will also contribute to receiving the vessels of vast tonnages at the port, given the dredging of the navigational channel of the port.
For his part, Lt. Gen., Osama Rabea, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, affirmed the persistent commitment of the Authority to support the joint cooperation with the Ministry of Transport with all its sectors, especially those related to maritime transport, expressing his appreciation for the efforts made to upgrade this vital sector through concrete and serious steps.
It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian Group for Multipurpose Terminals is a State-owned company that is founded through the collaboration of Alexandria Port Authority, the Suez Canal Authority, the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport, and the Alexandria Container Company.
