* During 2005, Egyptian main commercial ports have achieved a
noticeable employing prosperity compared to 2004, as they received 16321
vessels (20.3%), handled cargo with the value of 97.5 million tons (18.6%), 3.7
million TEUs (26%) and received 3.7 million passengers (32%). Besides, 231.7
million tons handled in specialized ports to increase the total handled in
Egyptian ports by more than 329 million tons. The total number of vessels
calling at Egyptian ports has reached more than 17 thousand vessels besides
vessels passing the Suez Canal, which is estimated by 18193.
* The average vessels dwell time in ports has stayed about 3.5 days as it was
in 2004, associated with the increase in the number of vessels and the increase
in the total handled cargo and containers.
* It is also noticed that the increase achieved in the number
of vessels calling at Egyptian ports and the increase in the handled containers
and cargo has occurred in spite of implementing huge construction developments
in Alexandria and Damietta ports.
* It is also noticed that the transshipped container rate has
increased with 34.7% than last year. It is a very significant indicator
especially when comparing the situation with neighboring ports.
