The Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety

According to the instructions of the Central Body of Organization and the Administration, MTS undertakes Submitting the Authority draft budget, after consideration, to the Minister of Transport for adoption.

  • Issuing resolutions regulating maritime labor (passports-qualifications-training) after coordinating with the Authority.
  • Providing financial support to some development projects undertaken by the Authority.
  • Developing draft laws and resolutions concerning the maritime safety and the protection of the marine environment from pollution.
  • Notifying the Authority with the approval on the operation of shipping lines before the Marine Inspection Department undertakes the annual survey on the vessels and advising MTS with the results.
  • Notifying the Authority with the approval on selling foreign vessels and maritime units in order to complete the necessary procedures.
  • Coordinating with the Authority for the adoption of the operation of foreign maritime units in territorial and coastal waters by the Armed Forces Operations Authority in order to carry out the technical survey to ensure the safety of these units and issue the necessary alert.
  • Coordinating with the Authority and following up the implementation of any perspective of the Egyptian Government concerning the International Agreements and conventions issued by the International and Regional Organizations.

The Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety provides services and assistance to the Egyptian Ports including:

  • The organization and guidance of vessels traffic inside and outside the ports.
  • The monitoring of the vessels entering and exiting the Egyptian ports in order to ensure their compliance with the requirements of safety, as well as the protection of live, shipment and water ways.
  • The identification of safe routes and water ways, the identification of the restricted area and the issuance of navigational circulars.
  • The development of lighthouses plans as well as the implementation of the relevant projects besides the identification of the technical specifications for the construction of lighthouses and navigational aids.
  • The participation in establishing, managing and maintaining the ports radio networks.
  • Follow up the design and implementation of ports projects after carrying out the necessary studies.
  • Monitor the cargo movement on berths in order to enhance the required flexibility of inward and outward cargo flow.
