Investment Opportunities in Alexandria Port

  • The Authority proposed the establishment of a green terminal in Alexandria as follows:
    • The project was tendered to international investors to submit bids for the establishment of a green terminal in Alexandria Port to import and export perishable goods.
    • The Port Authority received a proposal from an Egyptian/Slovenian association (Container Engineering Co. from Egypt and Coper Port–Slovenia)
    • The Authority received only one proposal so the tender was cancelled
    • The Port Authority decided to re-consider the study and expand its scope to include the impacts of the project on the environment especially that there is a coal terminal near the project's proposed area and it is planned to be transferred to El Dekheila Port away from the project's area.
    • The environmental impacts study showed that there is an air pollution exceeding the acceptable limits and the green terminal operations criteria. Thus the Port Authority decided to postpone the project of the until the coal terminal is transferred to El Dekheila Port.
