Transport minister: raising the efficiency of maritime ports to retrieve Egypt’s international status.

  Dr. Hesham Arafat, transport minister said that the ministry has prepared, together with Suez Canal authority, a broaden strategy for the development of maritime transport industry represented in setting a general plan for developing and raising efficiency of maritime ports and developing maritime transport system all over the republic; leading to supporting Egyptian economy, attracting investments and creating new job opportunities.  

 

 He also added that amongst the strategy is also raising performance rates  at ports, and consequently  increasing revenues through rehabilitating ports to receive giant vessels and providing  distinguished  logistic services and benefiting from   competitive privilege of each port, and fulfilling integration  between Egyptian ports; reaching  a maritime transport system; providing services of high international quality  and attracting  navigational lines and returning Egypt to its pioneering maritime transport status on regional and international standards.    

 

 He continued saying: “ all this will be through linking ports with multi-purpose transport means such as railways, land and river transport  and having  surplus energy provision, safety and security and environment protection; assuring working for the accomplishment of current maritime transport developmental projects and commencement of new projects and developing ports and maintaining infra-structure also accomplishment of electronic managing system  and  development of stevedoring system to raise performance rates and reduce of period of vessels’ stay at ports.
