About COMESA

Objectives:

1.Absolute freedom of Cargo, Passengers, Capitals, and services transfer.
2.Attempting to reach a complete Costumes Unity.
3. Attaining an integral Free Trade Zone.

Activities:

In the framework of national organization (North African Ports Association, African Union {ex- African Unity Organization}, COMESA items were accomplished:

1. In the framework of international changes and Trade Services Liberalization, the Maritime Transport Sector has updated the national maritime legislation by law no. 1\1998, which permits the participation of the private sector in the field of vessel ownership and all its related activities. Thus, African businessman can invest in Egyptian companies and port activities according to governing regulation. It is also possible for the Egyptian private sector to participate in investments related to maritime transport in The African Continent through the Internet announced tenders.

2. Egypt has ratified the African Covenant for Maritime Transport with the aim of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and African countries in the maritime transport
field and the increase of investments to improve productivity levels. The necessary legislative procedures were finalized. Egypt's ratification document was deposited with the Secretary-General of the African Unity Organization in 21/6/2000.
