Introduction

Seaports are considered the backbone of the state's foreign trade and its access to the world, as well as the main link in the multimodal transport chain, in addition to its vital role in supporting the economic development process. Due to the great developments that occurred on the international level, it was indispensable to continuously develop and modernize the ports as well as raising its performance level in order to cope with continuous global developments.

The report reviews the activities of the Egyptian commercial ports development from 2005 to 2009, and sheds the light on its achievements with regard to vessels, cargo, containers and passengers traffic in 2009.
