Cargo Traffic in Main Egyptian Ports

In 2007, Egyptian ports handled about 112.2 million tons compared to 106.6 million tons in 2006, achieving a growth rate estimated by 5.2%. Egyptian ports have achieved a successive increase in transit cargo (with an increasing rate a year after another). In 2007, it was estimated by about 28.9 million tons with an increase of 2.2% than 2006. It is an important indicator that Egyptian ports occupy an important position as a hub port in the region, especially East Port Said Port, which has only about 45.3% of the total handled transit cargo in Egyptian Ports.

  • Percentage of Dry Bulk Cargo of the total handled in Main Ports 32.1%
  • Percentage of Liquid Bulk handed in Main Ports of the total handled in Main Ports 4.3%
  • Percentage of Transit Cargo (Tons) of the total handled cargo in Egyptian Ports 25.8%
    (The largest part of transit cargo handling is concentrated in Port Said Port Authority)
