Introduction

The report presents the activity of the Egyptian main ports handling vessels, cargo, container and passenger traffic during 2004-2007, illustrating the changing rates in 2007 compared to 2006. In addition, the report presents the status of the Egyptian Fleet (Vessels and Maritime Units) and data regarding Maritime passports and holders of qualification certificates. The report is concluded with the financial status clarifying the incomes and expenditures of financial year 2006/2007.

In 2007, the total throughput of the Egyptian main ports reached about 112.2 million tons compared to about 106.6 million tons in 2006 with a growth rate of 5.2%. For the first time, handled containers reached 5.1 million TEUs compared to 4.6 million TEUs in 2006 with a growth rate of 11.1%.
The total number of vessels crossing the Suez Canal reached 20384 vessels compared to 18664 vessels (with 9.2% increase than last year).
