Conventions

Issuing the head of Maritime Transport Sector decision No. 64 for 18/8/2005, regarding the activation of the convention of facilitating maritime traffic FAL in Egypt, through using the unified models of IMO in Egyptian port and exchanging them electronically. Formation of committees and making studies with the competent authorities in A.R.E to join international conventions responsible for maritime safety and prevention of marine pollution, the most important of which are:

  • International convention for searching and rescuing sailors.
  • Container safety convention.
  • International convention for the levels of training, insurance and security for workers in fishing vessels.
  • International conventions to prevent contamination by vessels’ fuel.
  • International convention for international fund box to compensate the damages of oil contamination and its derivatives.
  • International Trelemones conventions for the safety of fishing vessels.
  • International convention to control fouling systems.

Seminars and Conferences

Several Conferences and seminars were held, the most important of which is the 21st international seminar about Maritime Ports: "Challenges and Future Horizons", the 9th International Maritime Conference "Mardcon", the 9th Meeting of Transport and Communications of COMESA Countries, and 6th Meeting of the Ministers of Transport, Communications and Public Works of COMESA Countries (Sharm El-Sheikh).

The Protection of Maritime Environment

The Ministry of Transport contributes in setting a general policy to protect maritime environment and the follow up of its implementation, in addition to the conventions, Egypt has joined, the most prominent of which are is MARPOL (International convention to prevent vessel contamination). The Ministry of Transport also participates in preparing emergency plans, and maritime environment, organizing and ensuring handling dangerous materials in ports and also studying joining new international conventions regarding the protection of Maritime environment.

  • Egypt has completed the requirements of ISPS code decisions in North Red Sea and Suez Canal.
